The WOT virus (Web of Trust virus) is a term used to identify a potentially unwanted program (PUP) and potential malware found in the scareware and spyware categories of computer infections. While Web of Trusts’s WOT add-on and extension is not technically a computer virus, this application shares the same exact permissions that known adware, spyware, browser hijackers, and other programs possess.

On December 7, 2010, ten companies all associated to Ayman El-Difrawi aka Alec Difrawi filed a lawsuit in Florida against WOT Services for defamation, violating rights, conspiracy and manipulating algorithms, among other claims, demanding WOT to remove ratings and comments for their numerous websites.
The WOT add-on and extension shares the same permissions as known malware. WOT can access your data on all websites and access your tabs and browsing activity. This is similar to adware and spyware applications such as Highlightly.

2. Install the free or paid version ofCCleaner by Piriform.
3. Once installed, open the program and navigate to Cleaner > Windows/Applications and click the Analyze button. Afterwards, click the Run Cleaner button on the bottom right of the program interface.
